We are a sex worker-led organization rooted in community, driven by rights, and committed to dignity for all.
Our Story
Guyana Vulnerable Population Alliance (GVPA) was founded in New Amsterdam, Berbice, Guyana to address the critical gap in advocacy, support, and rights-based services for sex workers and other vulnerable populations in the region.
GVPA emerged from a recognition that communities most affected by stigma, discrimination, and marginalization must have their own voice, their own leadership, and their own platform to drive change.
Operating from the heart of Berbice, GVPA bridges communities and institutions — ensuring that sex workers are not just the subject of policy, but the architects of it.
"Peer-led. Rights-based. Community-driven."
Our Purpose
A Guyana where sex workers and vulnerable populations live with dignity, safety, equal rights, and full access to health and social services — free from stigma, violence, and discrimination.
To empower sex workers and vulnerable populations in Guyana through peer-led outreach, capacity building, advocacy, and meaningful collaboration with service providers and institutions.
We are rights-based, community-centered, and peer-led. Our programs are designed and implemented by those with lived experience — because we know that those most affected must lead the solutions.
What We Stand For
These values guide everything GVPA does — from how we work within our community to how we engage with institutions and partners.
Who We Serve
GVPA works with and for all sex workers and vulnerable populations in Guyana, including:
Providing targeted outreach, health information, and advocacy to male sex workers across Berbice and beyond.
Supporting female sex workers with peer outreach, capacity building, and access to essential services.
Creating inclusive, affirming spaces and services for LGBTIQ+ community members engaged in sex work.
Serving individuals facing stigma, exclusion, or barriers to health, social, and legal services.
GVPA is proud to be part of a growing network of Caribbean sex worker-led organizations advocating for rights, dignity, and inclusion across the region.
